Be Wined and Dined

Lethbridge Wine Enthusiasts can start salivating, as Lethbridge College’s annual wine auction is right around the corner.

One of Western Canada’s largest wine auctions, this business-formal-attire event is one of this city’s most prestigious. Attendees are treated to an exquisite four-course meal, two auctions and live jazz music; not to mention the chance to “meet and greet” local business people.

In 1991, three local wine aficionados, Max Baines, Lance Brown and Clayton Allan, decided that a wine tasting and auction could work well as a fundraiser, and organized the first Lethbridge College Wine Auction.

Lance was the Lethbridge College Foundation’s Executive Director from 1987 to 1991; and Max is the owner of Andrew Hilton Wine & Spirits, wine expert, longtime sponsor and Past-Chairman of the event committee.

Clayton was a wine connoisseur, and twice-named Canadian Wine Taster of the Year. He was also the devoted husband of former Lethbridge College president Donna Allan, father to their four children, and a great friend to the Lethbridge community. Upon his passing in 2000, the annual November event was renamed in honour of his memory: The Lethbridge College Foundation Clayton Allan Wine Auction.
